Why the groundwater here is hard in the first place
The wells feeding much of this area draw from glacial sand and gravel in the Tuscarawas River Valley. Water moving slowly through that material picks up dissolved calcium and magnesium from the carbonate rock it passes over — which is exactly what hardness is.
It is not contamination and it is not a treatment failure. It is geology. It also will not change, which is the practical point: hard water here is a permanent condition of the address, not a bad year.
What that means for you is that the scale on your showerhead is going to keep coming back until something removes the minerals before they reach your fixtures.
Newer Jackson builds are usually an easier install
A lot of Jackson housing stock went up recently enough that builders pre-plumbed a softener loop in the basement or utility room — a capped pair of stubs sitting off the main line, waiting for a unit. If you have one, the install is straightforward and the job goes faster.
Finished basements are the more common complication here. If the main and the drain are behind drywall, or the only viable spot is in the middle of a finished space, that shapes both where the unit goes and what the job costs. We would rather see it before quoting than surprise you on install day.
